Judy Widger, M.D., is proud to be working with Healdsburg District Hospital, providing both inpatient and outpatient care. She is a board certified family medicine physician with 22 years of clinical experience in superior primary and acute care to broad based populations. She enjoys providing a full spectrum of primary care: from newborns to the very elderly. She is also fluent in English and Spanish.
Dr. Widger has lived in Sonoma County since the age of 9. She was an emancipated minor and worked many jobs to support herself. These experiences have helped shape her into a caring and socially aware medical provider.
After graduating from Rancho Cotate High School as valedictorian, Dr. Widger received a degree in biology at Sonoma State University and attended medical school at University of California, San Francisco. She then completed her residency in Family Medicine at Community Hospital in Santa Rosa. Dr. Widger has been providing inpatient care to hospitalized patients at Healdsburg District Hospital for 20 years. She thoroughly enjoys the practice of medicine and has always been eager to participate in programs for the hospital. She was instrumental in opening the subacute department at HDH and has served as the medical director since its founding in 2003. In 2015, she held the position of Chief of Staff, first female in this role at HDH. She has also served on the medical executive committee and previously chaired the clinical functions committee for over a decade. She is excited to serve on the quality counsel committee as well. Throughout her professional career, Dr. Widger's goal has always been to provide quality health care services to all who need them in the community.
Dr. Widger has participated in several national outpatient collaboratives to improve patient care outcomes, focusing on chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma and depression. Her primary care philosophy is patient-centered and team-based, providing education, encouragement and coaching. She says, "my favorite part of being a physician is listening to the patient and learning how I can best support that individual."
Teaching other health care providers is also very important to Dr. Widger. She has participated in the education of nurse practitioner, physician assistant and medical students. She hopes to continue this work for years to come. Other community volunteer work over the past years included having foster children, serving on the board for a Boys and Girls Club, tutoring in local schools and working with animals at local shelters.
When she is not working, Dr Widger enjoys spending time with her family: Betty, an Australian cattle dog mix, and their 3 cats. She enjoys an active lifestyle including hiking (Betty's favorite) and bicycling.
