Dr. Daniel Rose opened his Family Medicine office in Healdsburg in 1974 and practiced for 35 years. He remains active in surgery at Healdsburg District Hospital and recently completed his 6,000th visit to the operating room. Most of his focus is orthopedics, including nearly 600 total knee replacements. He is currently the Medical Director of Northern California Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, a department of Healdsburg District Hospital. Dr. Rose is co-inventor of the nicotine skin patch (Habitrol) and a warmer for disposable baby wipes (WarmWipes). He has invented three surgical instruments and published several articles in the medical literature.
He is happily married to Cathryn Marshall Rose, a Landscape Architect and 6th generation Sebastopol farm girl. They live in Alexander Valley on 14 acres and are spending thousands of hours building their own home ("a good house is never done"). Together they raised five children: a UC Davis college professor, a California Court of Appeals attorney, a top gun navy fighter pilot, a nurse practitioner, and an army chemical officer. They adore their nine grandchildren.
Dr. Rose served as HDH's Chairman of the Board for five years. Dr. Rose has been President and Health Consultant of the Alexander Valley Acres Mutual Water Company for over three decades and was the first Chairman of the Healdsburg Airport Advisory Commission. Other community service includes participation in the California Medical Reserve Corps. He has not slowed down despite being of retirement age. His sense of humor is well known and sometimes appreciated. A quarter-acre garden and orchard provide exercise, nutrition, and rejuvenation. His interests include photography and computer programming. "I continue to find joy in healing my patients and working with my wonderful colleagues," remarks Dr Rose.
